Bergen County S.P.C.A.

Membership Information

Officers and Agents of the Bergen County S.P.C.A. are unpaid professionals who go through a rigorous training program in investigative techniques, self-defense, report writing, and the recognition of animal cruelty.

When making your decision to apply for membership, please keep in mind that the Bergen County S.P.C.A. is a Law Enforcement Agency, so the focus of our work is on the enforcement of the New Jersey State Title 4 Animal Cruelty Laws, as opposed to being an animal rights organization such as The Humane Society.  If your interest is mainly in working directly with animals, you may wish to donate some time to The Bergen County Animal Shelter or The Humane Society.

Criteria for membership is that you must live in Bergen County or in an adjacent town.  You must be 21 years of age and in good health (a doctor's examination may be required for membership).  Although no law enforcement experience is required, it is desirable, as well as knowledge regarding the care and well-being of animals.

Our membership is currently full, however, from time to time, new members are brought into the organization when vacancies occur.  If you would like to submit an application for membership, please print the application or send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the address below and we will mail you an application.  You may then send in the completed application with two current passport photographs.  The next time membership interviews are held, you will be contacted to come in for an interview.
